7 Trending Body Treatments Experts Say Will Get You Summer-Ready

Before you know it, it will be time to strip down and get swimsuit again. The good news: There’s still time to treat small, stubborn pockets of fat or texture issues that make you think twice about getting out of your coverup. Here, our body-contouring experts share the top trending treatments they’re currently doing on patients to solve their most common body concerns.

To smooth skin and address texture issues, Delray Beach, FL dermatologist Dr. Janet Allenby says in-office body peels will give your physique a glow from head to toe. “Right now, we’re doing the European TCA peel on the body to address skin texture. It’s great in those areas where skin gets kind of wobbly, too, like in the anterior thigh,” she says. “When we do these body peels, especially this one, we use four pounds of pressure with our hands. So, it’s also a pretty deep massage and it really does promote lymphatic draining by helping to push all the liquid up and out into the lymphatics in the middle of the body.” Cryo T Shock

Endosphères Skin Smoothing Treatments

Medical aesthetician Amy Peterson has access to every body device on the market, and she so believes in the power of Endosphères Therapy. It’s what she’s used on herself, and countless clients, to really smooth skin on the body and address problem areas. Using a roller device with 55 silicon spheres, the treatment generates mechanical vibrations to stimulate blood flow and smooth and tone skin. “This improves blood circulation, encourages lymphatic drainage and reduces the appearance of cellulite,” Peterson says.

Fat Reduction Using Radio Frequency

Miami plastic surgeon Sean Simon, MD says heating stubborn fat with a device like Sculpsure, which is what he employs at his practice, provides noninvasive fat reduction and tissue tightening. “Devices like this employ a laser that is applied to the skin’s surface to target subcutaneous fat. The skin is bypassed by the laser preventing any damage on its way to treat the fat,” he explains. According to the surgeon, a 20-minute treatment results in approximately 25 percent fat reduction. “There is absolutely no downtime and it can be repeated multiple times, at six-week intervals, for additional benefit.”

Troy, MI plastic surgeon Anthony Youn, MD says his go-to nonsurgical slimmer is also Sculpsure. “It treats four areas at once, it’s tolerable, and it works,” he says. “Plus, there’s no risk of PAH, or paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, which can happen with CoolSculpting. It’s my treatment of choice for noninvasive fat reduction.”

The CoolSculpting treatment has undergone some improvements with the Coolsculpting Elite option, shares Saddle Brook, NJ dermatologist Dr. Fredric Haberman, who says it works best on people within 30 pounds of their ideal weight. “CoolSculpting has been used in our office for years with great success; however, CoolSculpting Elite is faster, safer, more advanced, more comfortable and in my opinion provides better results.” Among the improved features is a new C-shape contour, instead of the former U-shape. “This means less squeezing on the tissue with minimal soreness,” adds Dr. Haberman.

“For hard-to-treat areas like the flanks, arms and legs, CoolSculpting Elite can freeze and destroy fat cells in these areas so they don’t come back,” says Grand Rapids, MI, plastic surgeon Bradley Bengtson, MD. “The new technology allows for more energy to be delivered with shorter run times. It also treats fat in all layers versus just the deep layer.”

The Fat Reduction + Muscle-Building Combo

“One noninvasive body contouring treatment offered at my practice would be the Emsculpt NEO,” says Chicago plastic surgeon Michael Horn, MD. The muscle-building and body-sculpting device can build up the stomach, butt, arms, calves, and thighs by improving muscle tone and melting fat. “For your butt for instance, you are basically doing the equivalent of 20,000 squats in a 30-minute session, strengthening the gluteus muscle and giving a little more lift and fullness to the butt. I recommend doing four weekly treatments, followed by monthly maintenance treatments for best results.”

Fat Reduction + Skin Tightening + Muscle Building

“Body contouring is more than just fat reduction,” says Spokane, WA dermatologist Wm. Philip Werschler, MD. “It includes muscle-toning with treatments like Emsculpt, and then skin-laxity tightening using Ulthera, radio-frequency microneedling or Thermage,” he explains. “The best approach is a combination therapy.”

Dr. Allenby says the Resonic noninvasive cellulite treatment is a good cellulite-smoothing option. “It’s high intensity acoustic sound waves and you can treat any area of the body,” she says. “The sound waves break up the septa, which results in a smoother look. I’ve seen improvements in just one treatment and there’s minimal discomfort and no bruising with it.”

Joining the list of cellulite options is the recently FDA-approved Sofwave skin tightening treatment. Previously approved for the neck, it just added a temporary cellulite smoothing indication to the list of what it can do. “We have seen such beautiful Sofwave results on the face and neck,” says Houston dermatologist Jennifer Segal, MD. “In my practice, we have already seen excellent results on the buttocks as an off-label treatment in combination with other modalities such as radio-frequency microneedling.”
